DTF Transfers

What is DTF printing?

DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing creates full-color heat transfers that are applied to garments using a heat press.

DTF transfers are great for detailed artwork, gradients, photographs, logos, full-color designs, and designs that would otherwise require multiple colors of vinyl or screen printing.

They work on both light and dark garments and are commonly used on cotton, polyester, cotton/poly blends, canvas, and many other heat-safe fabrics.

What materials can I press DTF transfers onto?

DTF transfers work well on many heat-safe fabrics, including:

Cotton
Polyester
Cotton/poly blends
Canvas
Many performance and blended fabrics

Always check the garment manufacturer's heat recommendations before pressing. Heat-sensitive or specialty fabrics should be tested before full production.

How durable are DTF transfers?

When properly pressed and cared for, DTF transfers are designed for long-lasting wear.

Correct temperature, pressure, pressing time, garment preparation, and washing all affect durability.

For the best results, follow the current Legends DTF Prints pressing instructions provided with your transfers.

Can DTF print photographs and highly detailed artwork?

Yes. DTF printing is excellent for photographs, gradients, detailed logos, full-color artwork, and complex designs.

The final transfer can only be as detailed as the artwork provided, so high-resolution artwork is always recommended.

What does "low/no choke" mean?

Choke refers to slightly reducing the white underbase beneath the color layer of a DTF transfer.

Our printing process is designed to maintain clean details, proper white coverage, and accurate artwork without an obvious white outline around the design.

Artwork & File Setup

Can I upload my own design?

Yes. You can upload your own print-ready artwork or completed gang sheet directly when placing an order.

We print based on the file you submit, so make sure the artwork, spelling, colors, dimensions, transparency, and layout are correct before ordering.

What file type should I upload?

For most DTF orders, we recommend:

PNG preferred
Transparent background
300 DPI when possible
Artwork created at the intended print size

We may also accept compatible PDF, SVG, AI, or other high-quality artwork depending on the product.

For best results:

Remove unwanted backgrounds
Design at the size you intend to print
Use high-resolution artwork
Make sure small text is readable
Double-check spelling
Remove anything you do not want printed

Will you remove the background from my artwork?

Do not assume backgrounds are removed automatically.

If your uploaded artwork contains a background, it may print unless background removal or artwork adjustment is requested or included with the product you purchased.

If your artwork needs editing before printing, an artwork adjustment fee may apply.

Will you fix my artwork automatically?

No. Orders should be submitted as print-ready artwork unless artwork setup or adjustment services are purchased.

Artwork adjustments may include things such as:

Background removal
Basic cleanup
Resizing or repositioning
Minor layout adjustments
Improving transparency
Preparing artwork for printing
Correcting certain file setup issues

Artwork adjustment fees may apply depending on the amount of work required.

We will not automatically redesign artwork, correct spelling, change colors, reconstruct logos, or make major creative changes unless those services are specifically requested.

Why do you charge artwork adjustment fees?

Artwork preparation takes additional production time.

A print-ready file can move directly into production, while files requiring cleanup, resizing, background removal, reconstruction, or other adjustments require additional work from our team.

Charging for artwork adjustments allows us to keep transfer pricing competitive for customers who provide print-ready files while still offering help to customers who need it.

What if I notice a mistake after placing my order?

Because Legends DTF Prints specializes in fast production, orders may enter production shortly after being received.

Once your file has entered production, we may not be able to change:

Size
Quantity
Colors
Placement
Spelling
Layout

Always review your artwork carefully before submitting your order.

AI-Generated Artwork

Can I submit AI-generated artwork?

Yes. AI-generated artwork can be printed, but it should still be reviewed carefully before ordering.

AI artwork frequently contains issues that are easy to miss on a phone screen but become obvious once printed.

Common problems include:

Misspelled words
Distorted letters
Extra fingers or limbs
Incorrect logos
Strange facial features
Uneven shapes
Unwanted backgrounds
Random objects
Pixelated details
Fake transparency
Inconsistent outlines
Small artifacts around the artwork

Do you automatically fix AI-generated artwork?

No.

AI-generated artwork is treated like any other customer-submitted file. We print the artwork that is provided unless artwork adjustment services are requested.

If AI artwork requires cleanup or correction before printing, artwork adjustment fees may apply.

Can Legends help clean up AI artwork?

Yes, depending on the artwork and the amount of correction required.

Minor issues may be eligible for basic artwork adjustment services.

Artwork requiring major reconstruction, extensive text correction, logo recreation, illustration changes, or complete redesign may require additional design work.

If you're unsure, contact us before submitting a large order.

Should I check AI artwork before ordering?

Absolutely.

Before uploading AI-generated artwork, zoom in and carefully check:

Every word
Names and dates
Fingers and hands
Faces
Logos and mascots
Small decorative details
Transparency
Borders and outlines
Overall resolution

If something looks strange on screen, it will usually still look strange when printed.

Gang Sheets

What is a gang sheet?

A gang sheet allows you to place multiple designs on one larger sheet of DTF film.

You can combine:

Different designs
Multiple sizes
Logos
Names
Duplicates
Customer orders

Using the available space efficiently makes gang sheets one of the most cost-effective ways to purchase multiple transfers.

Can you build my gang sheet for me?

If gang-sheet setup or artwork assistance is available for your order, we can help.

Additional setup or artwork adjustment fees may apply depending on the amount of work required.

If you are submitting your own completed gang sheet, make sure all artwork is sized and positioned correctly before uploading.

Will you rearrange my gang sheet automatically?

Do not assume a submitted gang sheet will be rearranged.

If you upload a completed gang sheet, we generally print the layout provided unless an adjustment service has been requested.

Turnaround, Same-Day Orders & Pickup

How quickly are DTF orders ready?

We offer fast DTF production, including same-day service on eligible orders placed before the applicable cutoff.

Monday–Friday

Same-day printing cutoff: 5 PM ET

Same-day shipping cutoff: 3 PM ET

Saturday

Same-day printing cutoff: 1:30 PM ET

Sunday

Closed. Orders will be processed when production resumes.

Large, complex, specialty, adjusted-artwork, or non-DTF orders may require additional production time.

Do artwork adjustments affect turnaround time?

They can.

Orders requiring artwork cleanup, background removal, corrections, resizing, reconstruction, or other manual adjustments may require additional time before printing can begin.

Submitting print-ready artwork is the fastest way to move an order into production.

Do you offer rush service?

Rush availability depends on the product and current production requirements.

If a rush option is available on the product you're ordering, select it before adding the item to your cart.

Rush service does not override every product's production limitations or cutoff rules.

Do you offer local pickup?

Yes. Local pickup is available in Warner Robins, Georgia.

We'll notify you when your order is ready.

Please wait for your ready-for-pickup notification before making the trip.

What if I can't pick up before you close?

Need pickup after we leave? Call before closing to arrange outside pickup.

Outside pickup must be arranged with us in advance.

Can you ship my DTF order the same day?

Eligible DTF orders placed before our 3 PM ET Monday–Friday same-day shipping cutoff may ship the same business day.

Orders placed after the shipping cutoff may still qualify for same-day printing but ship on the next applicable shipping day.

Carrier transit time begins after the package leaves Legends DTF Prints and is separate from our production turnaround.

Shipping

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes. We ship throughout the United States.

Available shipping services and estimated carrier transit times are shown during checkout based on the order and destination.

Does faster shipping make my order print faster?

No.

Production speed and shipping speed are separate.

Selecting expedited shipping may reduce carrier transit time after your order leaves our facility, but it does not automatically move the order ahead in our production queue.

If faster production is needed, select an eligible rush or same-day production option when available.

When will I receive tracking?

Tracking information is provided once your shipment has been processed.

Carrier tracking may take some time to update after a label is created or the package receives its first scan.

Pressing & Application

What are the Legends DTF pressing instructions?

Our standard DTF pressing settings are:

Temperature: 270°F
Press Time: 8 seconds
Peel: Hot or cold peel
Repress: 5 seconds

Use firm, consistent pressure with a quality heat press.

After peeling the film, cover the transfer with parchment paper or an appropriate finishing sheet and repress for 5 seconds.

Can I hot peel the transfer?

Yes.

Our transfers can be hot peeled or cold peeled.

Use whichever method works best for your production workflow.

Do I need to repress the transfer?

Yes. We recommend a 5-second repress after removing the film.

The repress helps finish the transfer and improves the final feel and durability.

Should I pre-press the garment?

A short pre-press can help remove moisture and wrinkles from the garment before applying the transfer.

This is especially useful on garments that may have absorbed humidity.

Why isn't my transfer sticking?

Common causes include:

Insufficient pressure
Incorrect press temperature
Incorrect pressing time
Moisture in the garment
Uneven heat
Inaccurate heat press temperature
Pressing on a heat-sensitive or incompatible material

Start with our standard settings:

270°F for 8 seconds, hot or cold peel, then repress for 5 seconds.

If you're having trouble, contact us before pressing the remainder of your order.

Can I use a household iron?

A professional heat press is strongly recommended.

Household irons typically do not provide consistent temperature or pressure across the entire design.

Can I use a handheld heat press?

Results vary by machine.

A traditional heat press provides more consistent pressure and heat. If using a handheld press, make sure you can provide firm and even pressure over the entire transfer.

Washing & Care

How should I wash DTF-printed apparel?

For longer-lasting prints:

Turn the garment inside out
Wash in cold or cool water
Use mild detergent
Avoid bleach
Avoid direct ironing over the transfer
Dry on low heat or hang dry when possible

Proper pressing before the first wash is especially important for transfer durability.

Storing Transfers

How should I store unused transfers?

Keep unused transfers:

Flat
Cool
Dry
Away from direct sunlight
Protected from excessive humidity
Inside a sealed bag or container when possible

Moisture and extreme temperatures can affect transfer performance.

Order Problems & Policies

What happens if Legends makes a printing error?

If you believe there is a production error with your order, contact us as soon as possible.

Please provide:

Your order information
Photos of the transfer
Photos of the issue
Any relevant details about the order

We will review the issue according to our current store policies and determine the appropriate resolution.

What if the artwork I submitted was wrong?

Customers are responsible for reviewing submitted artwork before production.

This includes:

Spelling
Names
Dates
Dimensions
Colors
Transparency
Backgrounds
Image quality
Gang-sheet layout

If we printed the file as submitted, customer artwork errors are different from production errors.

Can I return custom transfers?

Because custom transfers are produced specifically from the artwork and specifications submitted with the order, custom products generally cannot be returned simply because the customer changed their mind or submitted incorrect artwork.

Review all order information carefully before submitting your order.
